31st Fair of Folk Art 

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION


31st Fair of Folk Art celebrated under the banner “The Cepelia Foundation - on the 750th anniversary of the foundation of the city of Cracow” will last from 17th to 26th August, and the place of meeting artists, artistic ensembles, orchestras and bands will be the cracovian Main Market Square. During 10 days there will be presented everything that is the best testimony of our rich traditional folk art, that emphasises and reminds our national and cultural identity.

The Fair of Folk will be accompanied by:
1. 3rd European Fair of Art and Artistic Handicraft
2. 3rd Małopolska Folk Culture Days
3. 2nd Festival of City Folklore

The most important event of the Fair will be a great market in the Market Square, which will be attendent by over 300 individual exhibitiors as well as “Cepelia” cooperatives and companies representants. All areas of folk art from Wielkopolska, Pomorze, Mazowsze, Podlasie, Podhale and other regions will be presented there.
In front of cracovian and international audience over 50 ensembles of song and dance, folk bands and groups will present their pieces.
So 30rd Fair of folk Art in Cracow promises to be once again joyful and colourful meeting of folk artists from almost whole Poland with foreign guests. It will create a great chance to get know their works as well as their secrets of workshops, whereas dancing and singing “Cepelia” ensembles will add splendour to whole event.

17th August (Friday)
The opening of the 31st Fair of Folk Art at 12.00 in the Main Market.
Pińczów and Kopernia Day
We will welcome prince Boleslaw Wstydliwy (the Shy) and his attendants in the cracovian Main Square arriving after 750 years from Kopernia near Pińczów, where the document of the location of the city of Cracow was signed. Presentations of ensembles and folk artists from Pińczowski Region throughout the day.

18th August (Saturday)
The Bochnia Town and Bochnia Land Day
Bochnia, also located on Magdeburg Law, celebrated its own Jubilee four years ago. This year, as the older sister of Cracow, it will present ensembles and folk artists, the Salt Mine Mining Orchestra and a very popular band “Duet w Kapciach” (“Duo in Slippers”).

19th August (Sunday)
The Czech Republic Day
Our southern neighbours have been guests of Fairs for years always presenting excellent ensembles, not only folk, and great artists. This year beside presentation of folk and artistic handicraft, as a historic touch they will present “GNOMUS”, the ensemble playing medieval music.

20th August (Monday)
The City Folklore Day
A phenomenon which has been reviving for years and amazing more and more groups of fans. Cracovian city folklore it is Zwierzyniec and Krowodrza quarters in Olek Kobyliński “Makino” and Andrusy songs. Their programme will also present “Huncwoty”, the ensemble from Wieliczka District. They will be accompanied by folk bands from Lvov and Kiev. 

21st August (Tuesday)
The Cracow District Day
The Cracow District like the cracovian pretzel surrounds our city. Their folk bands and ensembles will present Zabierzów, Wielka Wieś, Czernichów, Mogilany and Zielonki communes. Folk artists from all communes will present their works.

22nd August (Wednesday)
The Iwkowa Commune Day
This touristicly attractive commune situated in Brzesko District makes a debut in the Main Market this year. It makes a debut and invites everyone by presenting its reginal groups, children bands and promotion stands with folk handicraft, promotion literature and suprises.

23rd August (Thursday)
The Limanowa Town and Limanowa Land Day
Limanowa has taken part in Fairs many times interesting a lot especially by its folk rituals. Many of them comes from past everyday farming activities, for example flax spinning. The way of promoting magnificent touristic values of Limanowa Land with its folk artists gallery seems very attractive. 

24th August (Friday)
Dobczyce and the Wieliczka Salt Mine Day
This day its artistic achievements will present neighbours Dobczyce and Wieliczka especially its Salt Mine with Tourist Route. Two orchestras – from Dobczyce and from Wieliczka Salt Mine – will fight for primacy and audience acclaim. The knights fighting between members of St John Baptist Congregation will also take place. Regional ensembles will also appear and folk astists will present their works.

25th August (Saturday)
The Slovakia Republic Day – “Pogranicze Kultur”(“The Borderline of Cultures”)
Our next southern neighbours are expected in Cracow with great hope for meeting with amazing folk ensembles and crftsmen demonstrating their skills in front of our eyes. Orawa region – both Slovak and Polish – will present itself. The ceremony of signing the International Cross-boarder Agreement between Jabłonka the major Antoni Karlak and Primator Mesta Trstena Jozef Dubjak get closer this friendship .

26th August (Sunday)
The Nowy Targ Land Day
Traditonally the Fair of Folk Art in Cracow will be finished by Nowy Targ with its Podhale Region Market. It will be interesting and rich – as always during the Market. Presentations of ensembles “Mali Sieniawianie”, “Krzesani”, “Lubań”, “Watra” and “Mali Hyrni” it’s only small part of propositions from Nowy Targ. They will be enlarged by presentations of folk artists works and handicraft. There also chosen “Najśwarniejsa Gaździna” (“The Best Housewife”) of Fair will be chosen.

All events with presentations of folk artists works will take place everyday from 10 am to 6 pm. There will also be opened commercial stands with folk and regional works of art from 10 am to 8 pm.
